Orders or Architecture

Doric order- of the three columns found in greece, doric columns are the simplest
  they have a capital (top or crown) made up of a circle topped by a square.   area above column is called the freeze. simple to no patterns
  examples; parthenon and hephaisteion






Ionic order- taller shaft then doric. makes columns look more slender
  shafts have flutes(lines carved form top to bottom)
  shafts have entasis
  frieze is plain.
  bases are large and look like stacked rings
  scroll above shaft.
  examples; Erechtheum and temple of athena nike






Corinthian order- most decorative, entasis to make shafts look straight
  capitals have flowers below small scrolls
  shafts- flutes and base like ionic
  cornices are at a slant
  examples; choragic monument and olympien






Tuscan order- simplified doric order
  simple base and capital without adornments. no flutting or lines
  examples; union station, chicago and frank goodyear mausoleum






Composite order- mixed order. volutes(spirals) in ionic and acanthus leaves from    corinthian order
   volutes are larger.
   examples; university of virginia and william pratt house
